Korean War Veteran Association helps send kids to camp

The Daily Commercial - 7/2/2017

LEESBURG - The Korean War Veteran Association Chapter 169 in Leesburg presented a check for $2,000 Wednesday to a Golden Corral owner so children of wounded and fallen soldiers can attend Camp Corral, which is sponsored by the restaurant.

The group raised $1,000 and an anonymous donor matched that figure, which is enough to send four kids to the camp with no out-of-pocket expense.

"We are always looking for ways to help out in our community," Chaplain DJ Lynch said. "We set up outside of Wal-Mart, Publix and Winn-Dixie asking for donations for these kids. We feel we too can give back and make a difference."

April Jedziniak, owner of the Sumter County Golden Corral, received the check and thanked everyone for helping about the children.

"It's awesome that we can depend on the veterans themselves to help provide for these kids," Jedziniak said. "It gives me goose bumps thinking about the veterans giving to the next generations. They understand the struggles they are going through and want to help them heal too."

The money will benefit local children from 8 to 15 years old to attend a camp in Apopka, which will host nearly 200 kids this summer. The camp brings together kids in similar situations to help get them away from day-to-day life and allow a time of healing and bonding with others.
