In Independence, a Veterans Day celebration was scheduled for Nov. 8 at the Civic Center.

Brooklyn residents who are veterans and their spouses are invited to a Veterans Day breakfast 9 a.m. to noon with the firefighters at the Fire Station.

Tee time: Golfers looking for some unusual challenges and some fun, might want to consider playing in the Ridgewood Golf Course Superintendent's Revenge Tournament. There is a 10 a.m. shotgun start on Nov. 12 at the course, 6505 Ridge Road, Parma.

The event is a chance for golf course maintenance staffers to seek revenge on golfers who don't always follow the rules with golf carts and who are responsible for ball marks and divots. Staff members will set up the course with a variety of new challenges, including side hill putts and obstacles.

The tournament is a four-person, best-ball scramble.

Entry fee is $35 per player for nine holes, golf cart, lunch, two drink tickets and prizes. There is a signup sheet in the clubhouse, but space is limited to 72 golfers. There will be a payout based on net scores. Ties will be decided by a long putt competition on the practice green.

The tournament will take place rain or shine, but if there is more than two inches of snow, it will be cancelled, and refunds will be made.
