Operation Gratitude: National Association of University Women supports veterans

Carolina Panorama - 4/19/2018

This year has been proclaimed as the Year of the Veteran, and The Columbia Branch of the National Association of University Women (NAUW) wants to show its gratitude to the many veterans who served and continue to serve our country. The members of the Columbia Branch of NAUW, lead by its President Jeannette Dozier, paid tribute to Veterans at its monthly meeting on Monday night at First Calvary Baptist Church.

A brief program to salute the troops and veterans began with a meditation and prayer offered by the Co-Chaplain of the Columbia Branch, Reverend Camille Peay. The members showered the veterans of the W.J. Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, and also the homeless and displaced veterans with toiletries, socks and underwear. During the Meeting, all military members or spouses and family of veterans were recognized.

According to President Dozier, "We all should think about the sacrifices our military men and women made on our behalf. This is just a small way to honor and show our gratitude to the brave men and women who have fought and are still fighting to keep us all safe."

The National Association of University Women is a non-profit organization whose mission is to serve women, youth and the disadvantaged in our communities. Our purpose is to promote and conduct educational programs that are designed to provide community outreach services. Later this month the Columbia Branch will host the Annual Scholarship Luncheon to help generate funding to provide scholarships for high school graduating seniors.
