The Martin 16 Sloop is an accessible sailing boat designed for use by individuals with mobility disabilities, severe physical disabilities, or spinal cord injury. The boat has a ballasted drop keel to prevent capsizing, and will stay afloat even when flooded. The keel is a high lift keel for stability. Sail trimming is combined on one line, and the boat can be rigged by one person. Control features include a joystick helm system that controls the transom-hung rudder; a self-tacking, boomed jib; and a sheeting system with one-hand controls for the main and jib sheets. All control lines lead to the helms station. The boat has adjustable seating and a rumble seat to accommodate an instructor, caregiver, spouse, or parent. The boat can be crane-launched or placed on a trailer and launched using a ramp. OPTIONS: Mylar racing sails; the M16 Turbo Kit, a portable power-assisted steering and sheeting system; modular power assist; trailers; cover; Cruising Sails System; auxiliary power outboard motor bracket; auxiliary power inboard motor. WEIGHT: 730 pounds total (700 pounds displacement); ballast 300 pounds.
