---- CUSTOMIZED ADAPTATION --------- PURPOSE: To design a customized stander fabricated for use in a hallway by an individual with multiple sclerosis. The user wanted a device to conveniently get into the standing position from her wheelchair to improve the leg muscle conditioning, circulation, and fight spasticity through exercise. Since there was limited room available in the user’s home the stander was designed and fabricated for use in the hallway. The stander has two horizontal bars at knee and waist level which can be removable from the wall mounts to allow normal traffic in the hallway. To use, the user approaches in her wheelchair with a 'sling' already wrapped around her waist and hips, pushes her knees against the knee pads, connects the stander ropes to the sling and pulls on the rope from a ceiling mounted pulley. The unit can also be adapted to use an electric winch mounted on the floor that has its own control pendant (no ceiling-mounted pulleys required). The two bars and winch can be stored in a closet. The unit can also be adapted to a separate standing frame that is moveable/portable. TITLE: The Hallway Stander. WEBSITE: Workshop Solutions.
